Christmas Eve Dinner....a few days late

Tonight I had a yummy Christmas Eve Dinner at my Dad and Jean's house.  Yes, the date is correct, tonight is December 27th.  We had to postpone the dinner because it was still to treacherous to drive up and down the hill we live on Christmas Eve.  Quentin and Xander were in heaven because they got to open many more presents and the got to run around with Taka(?) and Sunny, Dad and Jean's dogs.  On a side note, the other day Quentin was worried about an "All about Me Poster"  that he will get to fill out sometime during his first grade year when he is student of the week.  He was worried about what he could put in the box meant for pets.  See we have eight people in the house so there is no room for a pet.  I sugested that he tell about Taka and Sunny, since they are the closest thing to pets he has.  His eyes lit up, but he said that he would have to ask Ms. O'Looney (his teacher) if that would be ok.  I  assured him that she would think that would be great,  I am sure Dad and Jean too do not mind.  Overall, it was a yummy dinner and a fun time getting everyone together.

Hand and Foot!

Tonight Fode and I played Hand and Foot.  Hand and Foot is really a 'couples game,' but we were desperate for entertainment tonight.  We have not left the house since Friday and that was really the first day we went out since last Sunday!  Fode calls himself 'The Champion.'  To counteract his title I called myself 'The Best'

We usually play Hand and Foot with three other couples.  We even have a trophy for the winner.  We have not won the trophy yet, hopefully someday.  I still can't believe I am old enough to play a couples game! 

As you can see, Zoe  came by to visit; she helped me, then she helped Fode.

Gone!

Today we had a wonderful winter day; though I have to admit I was a little stressed (ok a lot!) when I woke up.  This is the reason.  I went to Otter Crest with Fode, JJ and Jana for the weekend.  We went though I was worried about the bad winter weather.  I packed all the essentials: flashlight, water, snacks, blankets, gloves, hats and coats(maybe a little over kill).  When I woke up this morning and turned on the news I saw that the snow came to Portland.  All I wanted to do was get home ASAP!

 After getting on the road, I started to calm down.  As we passed the Van Duzer Corridor I felt even better.  The roads were fine.  I had visions of sleeping on the side of the road, but we made it to Salem fine.  A that point I  just wanted to get to the Yellow House.  We decided to borrow Jana and JJ's Volvo, since our car does not have 4 wheel drive.  We drove up 1-5.  The temperature in Salem was 41 degrees.  

As we drove u

p the road went from clear, to wet, to sanded, to slushy, to snow packed.  We made it to our exit.  The temperature was now 29 degrees.  Now was the BIG TEST (after a quick stop to Starbucks) our hill.  We drove to the bottom of our hill.  Over 10 cars were parked at the bottom, not a good sign.  Fode took the car and slowly started up the hill.  The trick is to not look back, to slo

wly accelerate up the hill.  People walking up the hill were faster than us, but the wheels

 held steady.  We inched up the hill, then we made it!  Yeah!  

Now the fun began.  The boys, my nephews Quentin and Xander, tried to build a snow man with Staci's help(their mom). Then I took the boys

 to the park for some sledding, their 5th time out in the snow that day!  Then I hear

as canceled for tomorrow, the best gift because that means I can sleep in.

  

Overall, it was an exciting day!
